Martin V



Martin V (Oddone Colonna; 1368–1431), 15th-century Roman Catholic pope. Elected to the papacy in 1417 at the Council of Constance, his accession ended the Great Schism in the church. Martin worked for reforms within the church structure and hierarchy and arranged agreements (concordats) with the most powerful nations of Europe. He also called several councils aimed at receiving input for the continued unity and betterment of the church.
