Martin

Martin, any of several birds of the swallow family. The best-known member of the species is the purple martin (Progne subis), valued throughout the Southern United States for its consumption of large quantities of mosquitoes and other insect pests. They are native to most of the United States and the lower portions of Canada and often flock together in large numbers, consuming swarms of winged insects in flight.
