Marijuana

Marijuana, or marihuana, nonaddictive drug derived from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). It is usually smoked, but can also be sniffed or taken as food. It is mainly used for the mild euphoria it produces; other symptoms include loss of muscular coordination, increased heart beat, drowsiness, and hallucination. The most potent form of the drug is hashish. Marijuana's use, the subject of much medical and social debate, is widespread throughout the world. In the United States, use of the drug has been prohibited by federal law since 1937.
