Mickey Mantle



Mantle, Mickey (1931– ), U.S. baseball player. Primarily an outfielder, he played for the New York Yankees (1951–68), hitting 536 home runs, 18 of them during World Series play. A switch-hitter (both right- and left-handed), he led the American League in 1956 with an average of .353 and 52 home runs and was voted the league's most valuable player 3 times (1956, 57, 62). Mantle was inducted into the National Hall of Fame in 1974.
