Mangrove

Mangrove, evergreen tree (genus Rhizophora) native to tropical and subtropical coasts, estuaries, and swamps. The trunk of the mangrove produces aerial roots, which support the tree and form a mass of tangled vegetation. Its fruit, a cone-shaped berry, contains a single seed that germinates within the fruit and produces a long root that imbeds the seedling within the mud when the fruit falls. The mangrove's bark is rich in tannin.
