Manatee



Manatee, large, aquatic, herbivorous mammal of tropical and subtropical Atlantic coasts and large rivers. They and the dugongs are the only living sea cows (order Sirenia). They have powerful, flat, rounded tails that provide propulsion. The forelimbs are small and hindlimbs completely absent. Manatees may be 12 ft (3.6 m) long and weigh 600 lb (270 kg).
