David Mamet



Mamet, David (1947– ), U.S. playwright. Among his successful works, which compare the American dream with the corruption of modern society, are American Buffalo (1977, New York Drama Critics Circle Award), Glengarry Glen Ross (1984, Pulitzer Prize and New York Drama Critics Circle Award), and Speed-the-Plow (1988). He also wrote screenplays for such movies as The Verdict (1982), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1984), and The Untouchables (1987). He wrote and directed Homicide (1991). Other works include The Cabin (1992; autobiography) and The Village (1994; novel).
