Malabo



Malabo (pop. 33,000), capital city of Equatorial Guinea. Founded by the British (1827) as Clarencetown, it was later named Santa Isabel by the Spanish (1844) until the independence of Equatorial Guinea (1973). Located on the island of Bioko in the Gulf of Guinea, the city is important in import-export trade.
