Mahdi

Mahdi (Arabic, “the guided one”), the prophet or savior who Muslims believe will bring peace and justice to the world. A notable claimant was Ubaydullah (r. 909–34), founder of the Egyptian Fatimid dynasty. Another was Muhammad Ahmad (1843?–85), who raised a revolt against Egyptian rule in the Sudan and fought the British (1883–85).
