Lorin Maazel



Maazel, Lorin (1930– ), U.S. conductor. A musical child prodigy born in France, he first conducted an orchestra in the United States at the World's Fair in New York (1939). He has gone on to become musical director of famous orchestras worldwide, including the Pittsburgh Symphony since 1986, the Cleveland Orchestra (1972–82), and the Vienna State Opera (1982–88).
