Lucian (A.D. 125–190), Syrian-Greek satirist. Among his best-known works are Dialogues of the Gods, a parody of mythology; Dialogues of the Dead, a biting satire on human vanities; and True History, a lampoon of fantastic travelers' tales, which influenced Rabelais and Jonathan Swift.
