Long Beach



Long Beach (pop. 438,700), seaport, industrial center, and tourist area in southern California, on San Pedro Bay, about 20 mi (32 km) southeast of Los Angeles. After 1921, when oil was tapped in Signal Hill, there was a population boom in the town. Aircraft and electronic manufacturing and oil production are among its leading industries.
