London Bridge

London Bridge, historical succession of bridges over the Thames River in London, England. The first bridge, dating from the 10th century, was wooden. In 1176–1209 it was replaced by a stone bridge with many buildings along it, including a chapel and defensive towers. Rebuilt many times, it was demolished and replaced in 1831 by a granite bridge, called New London Bridge. That structure was dismantled in 1968 and moved to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., as a tourist attraction. A new concrete bridge over the Thames replaced it.
