Jack London



London, Jack (John Griffith London; 1876–1916), U.S. author of novels and short stories, many set during the Yukon Gold Rush and treating the struggles of men and animals to survive. His works include The Call of the Wild (1903), The Sea Wolf (1904), White Fang (1906), and Burning Daylight (1910). He also wrote an autobiographical novel Martin Eden (1909), and a political novel, The Iron Heel (1907), dramatizing his socialist beliefs and predicting the rise of fascism. Alcoholism and financial problems led him to commit suicide at the age of 40.
