Locarno Treaties

Locarno Treaties, pacts drawn up in Locarno, Switzerland, in 1925 providing for the demilitarization of the Rhineland and specifying the borders of Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. The participants included those 5 countries plus Britain and Italy. The “spirit of Locarno,” supposedly heralding peace, died in 1936 when Hitler denounced the pacts and moved troops into the Rhineland.
