Lend-lease

Lend-lease, program by which the United States sent aid to the Allies in World War II, during and after neutrality. President Franklin D. Roosevelt initiated the program in 1941 to help countries “resisting aggression.” Total aid exceeded $50 billion and not only bolstered Allied defense but developed the U.S. war industries and helped mobilize public opinion.
