League of Women Voters



League of Women Voters, nonpartisan organization with about 125,000 members in the United States and Puerto Rico, founded in 1920 by members of the National American Women Suffrage Association. Apart from political education for its members, the league researches and campaigns economic and social issues. It does not sponsor electoral candidates or political parties. Men gained admittance to the organization in the mid-1970s.
