Laurel



Laurel (pop. 21,897), city in southeast Mississippi, seat of Jones County. Laurel was founded in 1822 to mill and process yellow-pine timber. Other products now include petroleum, canned vegetables, chemicals, electrical parts, and textiles. The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art and the Masonite Corp. are located in Laurel.
