Lake Edward

Lake Edward, lake in the Rift valley of East Africa, on the border between Uganda and Zaire. Explorer Henry M. Stanley named it in 1889 for Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII). Lake Edward, approximately 40 mi (64 km) long, 32 mi (51 km) wide, and 830 sq mi (2,150 sq km) in area, is a water source for the Nile. The Semliki River connects it to Lake Albert to the north.
