Lake Baikal



Lake Baikal, world's deepest lake (maximum depth 5,315 ft/1,620 m), located in southeastern Siberia, USSR. It is about 395 mi (636 km) long and 49 mi (79 km) wide, covering an area of about 12,200 sq mi (31,500 sq km). It contains about 20% of the world's unfrozen fresh water (more than any other lake).
