Paulus Kruger

Kruger, Paulus (1825–1904), South African Boer leader. He opposed the annexation (1877) of the Transvaal by the British and the Boer rebellion of 1880. He was elected president of the new self-governing Transvaal Republic (1883). During the second Boer War (1899–1902) he went to Europe and sought vainly for support for the Boers.
