Aleksei Nikolaevich Kosygin



Kosygin, Aleksei Nikolaevich (1904–80), Soviet premier, 1964–80. In 1939 he was appointed to the central committee of the Communist party; in 1960 he became first deputy to Nikita Khrushchev, whom he succeeded. Sharing leadership with Leonid Brezhnev, Kosygin concentrated on modernizing industry and agriculture.
