Killdeer



Killdeer (Charadrius or Oxyechus vociferus), shorebird, named for its noisy call. Marked with bold black and white rings on head and breast, killdeer breed from Canada to Chile, spending the winter in large flocks. They feed on insects and other small animals and kill harmful ticks and boll weevils.
