Kanishka



Kanishka (d.A.D. 160?), greatest king of the Kushan Empire, which included what is now Pakistan, Afghanistan, and northern India. A patron of Buddhism, Kanishka built a monument in his capital, Peshawar, to house relics of Buddha. He established the Gandharan school of art, which blended eastern and western influences in sculpture.
