Kala-azar



Kala-azar, dumdum fever, or visceral leishmaniasis, severe infectious disease found chiefly in Asia and caused by a protozoa (Leishmania donovani) and transmitted by the bite of sand flies. Symptoms include fever, anemia, leukopenia, and enlargement of the spleen and liver.
