Jute



Jute, annual plant (genus Corchorus) of the linden family, and its fiber. Cultivated in India and Bangladesh, stems of the C. capsularis and C. olitorius are cut and laid in water until the long fibers can be separated. The fibers are then dyed and spun and used for making burlap, insulation, and rope.
