Insulin



Insulin, protein hormone manufactured in the pancreas by minute areas of tissue called the islets of Langerhans, and then secreted into the blood, where it controls the digestion of carbohydrates. A lack of insulin or a disturbance of its use by the cells is the cause of diabetes.
