Indigo bunting



Indigo bunting (Passerina cyanea), North American songbird of the family Emberizidae, which includes the bunting, finches, grosbeaks, and sparrows. The male bunting of this species has a deep indigo blue head and blackish wings and tail, while the female is brown with darker wings and lighter underparts. Helping farmers by feeding on insects and weed seeds, the indigo bunting ranges from Ontario and New Brunswick to as far south as the Gulf states.
