Illinois



Illinois, tribal confederation of Native Americans belonging to the Algonquian linguistic group and related to Ojibwas and Miamis. Their territory originally included Illinois and parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri. After tribal wars with the Iroquois and other northern tribes, the few survivors moved to Kansas (1832) and later to an Oklahoma reservation (1867).
