Harold Le Claire Ickes



Ickes, Harold Le Claire (1874–1952), U.S. government official. Ickes was secretary of the interior (1933–46) under Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, and he also served as head of the Public Works Administration (1933–39). An able and responsible administrator, Ickes was a central figure in Roosevelt's New Deal.
