Ibadan



Ibadan (pop. 1,060,000), second largest city in Nigeria. Founded in the 1830s, Ibadan is located in the rich agricultural region of southwest Nigeria, and is a major commercial and industrial center. Ibadan's industries and products include brewing, producing canned goods, paint, plastics, furniture, and soap. Ibadan came under British protection in 1893. It is the capital of Nigeria's Oyo state.
