Hyssop



Hyssop, herb (Hyssopus officinalis) of the mint family. Once used as a household remedy for sore throat, hyssop is now used primarily as a seasoning for meats and vegetables. The oil from its evergreen leaves has been used in the manufacture of perfumes. Grown throughout southern Europe and in parts of the United States, the hyssop plant may reach 2 ft (61 cm) in height.
