Johan Huizinga



Huizinga, Johan (1872–1945), Dutch historian and writer, noted for his writings about the cultural history of the Middle Ages, which portrayed the spirit of the entire age. Huizinga's works include The Waning of the Middle Ages (1919), In the Shadow of Tomorrow (1935), and Homo Ludens (1938). During World War II, he was imprisoned by the Nazis and died shortly after his release.
