Hudson Bay

Hudson Bay, shallow, epicontinental sea in the northern part of Canada, named for Henry Hudson. Up to about 850 mi (1,370 km) long and 600 mi (970 km) wide, it is linked to the Atlantic Ocean by Foxe Channel. James Bay, the largest inlet, extends southward between Ontario and Quebec provinces. Hudson Bay shipping is restricted because the bay freezes over in winter.
