Horned lizard

Horned lizard, name for several species of lizards (genus Phrynosoma) native to North America, from Canada to Mexico. Because of their shape, they are often called homed toads. The body is covered with spiny scales that are particularly long on the head. Homed lizards live in dry regions, where they can bury themselves in the sand by rapid sidewise movements. They feed on insects, especially ants.
