Hoover Dam



Hoover Dam, formerly Boulder Dam (1933–47), on the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona. It is 736 ft (244 m) high and 1,244 ft (379 m) long. The dam impounds Lake Mead and has a hydroelectric capacity of 1.3 Mw. Built in 1931–35, it began operating in 1936.
