Hoover Commission



Hoover Commission, common name for Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of the Government, an advisory commission to prepare improvements in the efficiency of the executive branch of government. The first such commission (1947–49) submitted 273 proposals and was responsible for the establishment of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. A second commission (1953–55) made 314 recommendations, more than half of which were adopted.
