Hookworm



Hookworm, any of various intestinal parasites (order Strongiloidae) of humans and domesticated animal. The life cycle involves a free-living larval stage followed by direct infection of the host, with no intermediate host. The parasitic adults are blood feeders and attach themselves to vessels in the wall of the intestine. Each worm may cause the loss of up to 0.25 ml of blood a day.
