Homing pigeon



Homing pigeon, bird of the family Columbidae able to return to its loft from vast distances, selectively crossbred to combine speed and stamina. The racing of homing pigeons has been a popular sport since the 19th century. A well-trained bird may travel over 1,000 mi (1,600 km).
