Buddy Holly

Holly, Buddy (Charles Hardin Holly; 1936–59), U.S. singer, guitarist, and composer, one of rock music's first major performers. Holly's style combined several components of country music with a powerful background rhythm. In 1957 his band, the Crickets, recorded the hit song, “That'll Be the Day.” In the same year, Holly released a solo hit, “Peggy Sue.” His career was cut short when he was killed in a plane crash outside of Mason City, Iowa.
