Holistic medicine, approach to health and medical care based on the principle that the “whole” person must be treated comprehensively, taking physical, psychological, and environmental factors into account. Treatments include herbs, acupuncture, relaxation therapy, yoga, meditation, vitamin therapy, and biofeedback (body self-monitoring technique). Traditional medicines and surgery are generally avoided.
