Holding company

Holding company, in finance, company that holds a majority or substantial minority of the stock in another company or companies in order to control policies. The constituent corporations of a holding company are called subsidiaries. By pyramiding such companies, that is, by creating additional companies to control the stock of holding companies lower in the pyramid, the firm at the apex can control assets many times greater than its own.
