Hipparchus



Hipparchus (6th century B.C.), Greek political figure. Son of Pisistratus, ruler of Athens in the mid-500s, Hipparchus shared power with his brother, Hippias, when their father died in 527. A patron of the arts, Hipparchus brought the poets Anacreon and Simonides to Athens. He got involved in a plot to overthrow his brother and was killed when the revolt was suppressed.
