Robert Herrick



Herrick, Robert (1591–1674), English lyric poet. Writing in the classical tradition of the Latin lyricists, he was also greatly influenced by the dramatist Ben Jonson. His poems are concerned with nature, youth, and love. His best-known line: “Gather ye rosebuds while ye may.” Most of his work appeared in Hesperides (1648).
