Hercules



Hercules, or Heracles, in Greek mythology, hero famed for his strength and courage. The son of Zeus and Alcmene, he was hated by Zeus's wife Hera, who caused him to go mad. While insane, he killed his own wife and children. He then tried to purify himself by performing 12 labors set for him by King Eurystheus. After his death he rose to Mount Olympus, the dwelling place of the gods and made his peace with Hera.
