Jimi Hendrix



Hendrix, Jimi (1942–70), U.S. rock music performer. An unconventional musician, he experimented with the electronic guitar, creating new sounds and expanding the guitar's capabilities. Hendrix's music was frequently loud and characterized by long, emotional solos and a powerful beat. After playing with various rhythm and blues musicians, he went to England in 1966 and formed a band called the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which enjoyed worldwide success with numerous world tours and concert performances. Hendrix died in London of a drug overdose.
