University of Heidelberg



Heidelberg, University of, oldest university in Germany, established in 1386. Modeled on the University of Paris, Heidelberg became a center of Protestant education in the 1500s. Its focus shifted to the study of medievel literature and folklore in 1803. Today its faculties include theology, law, medicine, and philosophy.
