William Hazlitt



Hazlitt, William (1778–1830), English literary critic and essayist. His observations of culture, politics, and English manners appeared in Characters of Shakespeare's Plays (1817) and Lectures on the English Comic Writers (1819). His wit and versatility are reflected in the miscellaneous essays of Table Talk (1821–22) and The Spirit of the Age (1825).
