Howard Hawks



Hawks, Howard (1896–1977), U.S. film director who specialized in sharp dialogue and visual clarity. Hawks helped to create the film genre known as screwball comedy, in which the eccentric lifestyles of the rich were ridiculed. His movies include Dawn Patrol (1930), Scarface (1932), 20th Century (1934), The Big Sleep (1946), and Red River (1948).
