Richard Halliburton



Halliburton, Richard (1900–39), U.S. explorer and writer. His travels, which he recounted in The Glorious Adventure (1927), The Flying Carpet (1932), and other books, retraced the steps of such historical figures as Hannibal (Carthage to Italy) and Hernán Cortés (Mexico). Halliburton and his crew were lost at sea in a storm while trying to sail a Chinese junk from Hong Kong to San Francisco.
